The day I Quit Life

“STOP!!!” “Wait until you hear me completely. Don’t draw conclusions” I yelled as she turned her back towards me and started to walk away.

Fights between us were soon becoming the order of the day. We were beginning to realize that we had some serious differences and we could no longer breathe down each other’s incompatibilities. On most occasions it was she, who would have the final say and though I didn’t quite approve of it, I still accepted it as I knew I still loved her.

But today, things were different. There is always a point beyond which any person will react. And today was one of those days. It was one of those moments, where a small issue got blown out of proportion, and then one thing led to the other and I felt I have had enough of this. Even before I could realize what I told her, it was way too late. I had just told her something, which she would have never really expected me to say.

As she pushed me aside and started walking away in a hurry, I saw she left a trail of tears behind her. “Damn!!!” I kicked my leg hard. It was an insane moment. And then in my moment of insanity came the deadliest of thoughts which was then going to change my life forever. I looked around, and I instantly found what was just the perfect execution plan.

As I began to climb the steps my feet began to tremble, I was getting shaky. I wondered what people would speak of me tomorrow. What would be the headlines in the paper tomorrow? Would this area get cornered after this?” I very soon reached the topmost area and never realized I managed to climb the high rise as I was so engrossed in my train of thoughts.

True. Suicide it was. One easy way to put things to logical conclusion. Logical? Yes. After all that what I had told her today, there was never really a hope of reconciliation between the two of us. And I simply didn’t want to live a life without her.

I was always scared of heights, but still i wondered why of all the things, I had chosen to jump off this high rise? Again, it was my love towards to her. For she always kept telling me that someday we ll hold each other’s hand and jump off a cliff if we cannot get married to each other.

I looked down trying to fathom the depth. I saw a dark spot in my eye and it was the fear that was turning me blind. They say you need courage to commit suicide. And I never before had suicidal tendency. But then this was not suicide. It was my love that had come crashing, and so my life.

I tried to push myself ahead and leap to death, but somehow the fear of falling was stronger than the compelling thought to end it. It is any human’s natural instinct to protect oneself. I lifted my right leg and put it ahead of me hoping the imbalance would make me stumble to death. But then again I was conscious of my fall.

I tured around, like a coward. I sure deserved a cowards death. And this I felt was more easy. I took a few strides forward, and then closed my eyes tight and began to walk backwards.

Did I just hear her scream out my name???

It was late, I screamed out in fear. I was fast heading down and I could hear her scream loud in fear. The last I remembered was a thumbing sound and my body went cold.

YES!!!! I finally managed to put our fights to end. I had eventually conquered my fear of heights and taken a dive into the pool. I proved to her, if not as good as her, I too can dive. And at last put an end to her nagging.

As I stepped out the pool, she came running towards me gave me a tight hug. It was the most daring thing I had done in my life ever. But then it was all for the one whom I loved.

Perfect Birthday Gift (Concluding Part)

She walked up the stairs, not sure how this was all going to unfold. She was trying hard not to reflect and keep her feet grounded. His room door was ajar. She slowly opened the door and there he was engrossed in something in front of his laptop. She looked hard at him, and nothing about him had changed. He still looked the same. She was all overjoyed on seeing him. She wondered if she should call out his name or jus' hug him from behind and give him a surprise.

But time does change things, and three years sure is a long time. Though they lived and shared everything between them three years back, the distance over the years sure had brought in discomfort within her and so she decided to take things in a more ceremonial way. She cleared her throat hoping to make him turn. But he seemed to be totally deaf to her sound. She walked closer to him and, “Rahul?”

His head turned instantly, and he looked confused for a moment. They were both frozen in that moment. Hoping he would say something, she kept waiting, but having known him and trying to ease the situation she wished him “Happy Birthday Rahul!!!”

He still seemed lost, he asked her in a very timid voice, “Where is my birthday gift?” She was taken aback for a moment. All these years and this for sure was not something that she was expecting to hear from him. But she decided to play on, after all they were no strangers. She very artfully asked him what he wanted.

“I want something very special, which no one else has given me.”

She thought for a while, then grinned. She slowly leaned towards to him and gave me a warm peck on his cheeks. His face instantly turned red. He was all blushing.
Trying hard to look into her eyes he in a very demure voice thanked her.

She felt a little odd the way things were. Rahul was acting very strange. He didn’t show half the excitement or interest she had. She on various occasions during their conversations tried to talk him into about their past, but he sounded ignorant of all the focuses and was least unapologetic in his behavior.

Her excitement was beginning to die, and she was beginning to regret at her decision of having chosen to come back after all these years. Rahul had sure moved on, and it was very obvious in all his actions.

Knowing her presence there was of no significance and trying to clear the air around them, trying to end her agony she asked Rahul if he had nothing to ask or tell her after all these years. She drew a blank response from him. Growing impatient and deeply disappointed at his abrasive demeanor she asked him “I think I should leave?.”

“Okay, Byee...”

No sooner did he complete his phrase, she walked out slamming the door hard at him. And ran down the stairs with tears rolling fast from her eyes. Rahul’s mom on sensing something was wrong, ran towards the door and asked her what was wrong.
“Your son will never change!!! I feel sorry that I fell in love with your son. I wish I hadn’t come here today. Atleast I would ve lived with the thought that he still loved me.”

After couple of days,
Simran’s phone kept ringing repeatedly. But seeing it was Rahul’s mother, she refused to attend the calls. The following day, Simran was surprised to find Rahul’s mom at her door step. Even before Simran could say something,
“Thank you Simran for having come down at my request. This was the best birthday gift I could ve given him. He loved nothing and wanted nothing, other than you, all his life. I am happy at least on his last birthday I could give him a perfect birthday present. Rahul was suffering from Alzheimer's. I thought you would want to see him one last time yesterday.”

She placed her hands on Simran's shoulder and the next minute She silently turned around and walked away.

It was just 6 am in the morning, and she hadn’t slept the previous nite. They had a big fight last nite and as always they spent the whole nite fighting over the phone and that had kept her awake all nite. Being the rude guy that he was, he had switched off his phone and repeated attempts to contact him were all in vain. And being the loving and affectionate girl that she was, she could not sleep. It was a long nite for her. What made her feel bad was that it has his birthday today and things just didn turn out the way she planned. She had planned lot of surprises for him and somehow everything backfired. She kept trying his number till dawn.

At 6am her phone rings, she in all excitement picks the phone and is all delighted to see a call from him. She was sure annoyed at him, but the selfless love she had towards him made her attend the call. Having stayed awake the whole nite in a very weary voice she managed to tell “Hi Rahul!!!”

And then when she heard what Rahul had to tell her, she first shook her head in disbelief, and didn believe him. Then as she kept speaking to him, she slowly came towards the window, moved the window curtain of her room to get a view outside, and yes Rahul was rite there at the gate waiting there with a bouquet in his hand. Tulips they were, her favorite flower, the very sight of which brightened her day. She shook her head, but she knew he was crazy and could go any extent to make her happy. Sometimes she wondered why they fight so much when they loved each other so much.

She walked towards the gate to meet him, and the moment he saw her, he ran towards her and even before she could say something he was down on his knees, looking deep in her eyes with a promise, and his hands stretched towards her. This was the day he had proposed her marriage. And the day she had agreed. They dreamt of a life together.

“Madam!!!, Do I go straight???” asked the cab driver. It has been 3 long years since she last travelled this road, but she still remembered the way to his house. In her pleasant voice she said “Yes, straight.”

It still appeared like it had all transpired yesterday. As the cab driver kept paddling his way through the slow moving traffic, she was all engrossed in her thoughts.

It was just last month Rahul’s mother had called her and informed her, that she wanted to meet her. Somehow Simran was hesitant. It was the same family that was against their marriage and now after all these years why were they keen on meeting on her? She had managed to get away that day by coming up with an excuse and managed to put it off very courteously. But Rahul’s mother kept calling her every day, and there was some intensity in her voice. Being the sympathetic girl that Simran was, she could not for long say a no to someone who was of her mother’s age. She finally agreed. But Rahul’s mother did say that she was planning a surprise for Rahul and Rahul wasn’t aware of her visit.

As the cab turned left and pulled to the corner to stop, she got down. She mulled over what it could be all about. As she started to walk, there was anticipation and excitement that began to brew within her. There was a smile on her face, a smile that was long lost.

She rang the door bell, hoping Rahul would come and greet her and seeing her he would hug her tight and say a sorry for having let her down, for having left her stranded mid-way through her life.

Rahul’s mother opened the door and welcomed Simran home. Simran knew that Rahul’s mother liked her and it was just circumstances that had forced them to depart. Simran was happy to be along with his mother who walked her into their house. As Simran was sitting and sipping through her coffee, she was getting restless.

“I knew you would come. That’s why I kept trying, for somehow I always knew that the two of you truly loved each other “, said Rahul’s mother.

Rahul’s mother enquired about Simran and what she was upto these days, and why she chose to not marry all these years?

“I wanted to learn to live life independently and I was all eager to complete my higher studies. So that’s kept me busy all this while. Marriage has never been on mind aunty.”

“Rahul!!!, haven’t you ever thought of him in the last 3 years???”

Simran just smiled.

“Rahul has never been the same without you. Ever since the two of you parted he has been living a very lonely life, keeps very much to himself, stay away from social life. I sometimes envy you Simran, the 5 years that you spent with him, you ve managed to love him more than what I ve loved him for the last 27 years. You mean the world to him. Though he lives for me, he has always been yours.”

Simran’s eyes on hearing this were wet.

“Don’t you want to meet him? I am sure the best gift I can give on his birthday is returning his only love to him.”

Cruel Life

She has always been around me for the last year and a half. And since the time my loved one and my best friend made their absence conspicuous in my life, she has been my sole company ever since. Though during my initial days I used to not quite enjoy her company, over a period of time even without my knowledge she became an integral part of me life. I used to hate having to travel with her every day in the morning and in the evening. Sometimes I used to think of excuses to avoid her. But She slowly crept her way into my life. Very soon I started spending quality time with her, not just at office, even once I reach home I would be all hooked to her. I guess I was getting addicted to her, and today was the day I realized yes, I was addicted to her.

This morning I reached early to office, only to learn to my utter shock and dismay that she is critically ill. I was all getting restless. I contacted my family doctor and informed him about her. By now I had known her complete health history and so I was in a good position to answer most of the doctors queries. The doctor asked me to rush her to his clinic. Seeing my all scared and nervous my collegue cum friend offered to join us. We reached the doctors place. And the doctor took her into the consultation room, and all along I was keeping my fingers crossed and praying for the best.

After a while the attendant came and called me into the consultation room, I walked with shaky feet, mentally preparing myself. She was rite there lying on the bed, but she was sleeping, seemed like the doctor had administered anesthesia to her. She looked all dull and pale.

The doctor put his hand on my shoulder and told me with utter sympathy. “Sorry, Fazal!!!!”

I wanted to cry. By this time my friend came by and held me from behind. I didn’t want to give up. I asked the doctor if I can take her anywhere outside, and if there is something that I could do. He shook his head and said, that it’s not possible for anyone to get her back to normal now.

I sat down at the chair with my hands on head, and looked remorsefully at her. Seeing all the wires that were running through her body I felt miserable. I again looked upto the doctor and asked him, now what?

And that’s when the world came crashing down on me. I cried aloud when the doctor broke the news. In a fit of rage I screamed at him asking “WHAT ABOUT ALL MY DATA!!!!”

Yes, now that he had confirmed that he had to reformat my laptop, what about all my data. All my official work, the thousands of official mail that I had archived, all my personal data, what about it?

Today was the day my dear little Dell Latitude E6400 crashed.

The day I Met Her (Conculding Part)

I must have rehearsed my lines a hundred times in front of the mirror last nite. But then today the same lines seemed new to me. The excitement within me was growing, and my body was going cold in anxiety. I no longer needed to close my eyes to get a glimpse of her. She was always on my mind; her pretty face was at all times infront of my eyes.

It was time, the time I had been waiting for the last 27 days had finally arrived. And I wanted to live this moment, for I dint want to be sorry the rest of my life for not having told, what I felt about her. I took a deep breath, and for that one final time I rehearsed my lines. Yes, I was ready. Dressed in my best, wearing my favorite perfume I was exuberating with confidence now. Before I could enter her place, I lifted my feet backward and rubbed my shoes against the back of my trousers for that last bit of detail.

I gently leant towards my left trying to peep through the large glass pane to see if she was around. And the moment I found her, I could feel the blood rush through my feet, as if telling me to run away from that place as fast as I could. But no, this time my heart was in control my body, not my mind. I listened to my heart, and gently opened the door and entered her place.
My eyes were affixed on her. She looked even more beautiful this evening. Dressed in bright red, with her hair neatly falling behind her back, she looked like a girl who had just straight walked out of my dreams infront of my eyes. I looked at her, as her hair strands fell over her eyes as she was deeply engraved in her work. I was hoping for the time to freeze, as I had to this date never lived a moment as beautiful as this.

But what you wish is not what you always get in life, no sooner did her hair fall over her eyes, she lifted her head sideways tossing her hair backwards gently, our eyes met. And there was a bright sparkle in her eyes. Our eyes stayed locked at each other for a while, and this time I smiled first. She smiled back with gently dropped her eyes. I just missed my heart beat. Or was it because her heart had started beating for me?
As I started walking towards her, I kept my eyes affixed on her while she kept stealing silent glances. The world around me and the voices around me seemed to be growing faint, and all I could now hear was my heart pounding loud and fast. On a normal day I would ve died of stroke, but today I had a reason to live, and nothing could come my way. She was all that I wanted in life.

There I was right infront of her, with less than an arms distance separating the two, any further and I am sure she would ve heard my heard pounding as well. As she stayed seated, I bent forward to speak to her. She looked up towards me and in her charming voice greeted me. I greeted her back and stretched my arms on her table to lean against the table as our eyes continued to be lost in each other. She smiled in expectation looking deep into my eyes, hoping I would say something. I was awestruck at this beautiful woman in front of my eyes, and I had forgotten all my lines. All I knew was that this is reality, and my dream is on the verge of coming true.

Having given me enough time to speak and seeing my lost, she must have grown impatient. She asked me to take a seat. I sat down infront of her trying to comfort and regain my conscious.
While different thoughts kept racing in my mind trying to find their way out through my voice box, there was one strong though that told me, “Fazal, this is not your cup of tea, better ask her number and lets take thing slowly. This is not the place.” Just as I was about to phrase my sentence, she asked me for my cell number!!!. I thought it was my mind visualizing my phrase in her voice. And instantly I repeated the same line to her. She gave me a shocked reaction, and seeing her reaction my feet went cold.
She smiled this time, nodding her head sideways and told me that she was sorry. She smiled and asked me why don’t I give her my number. Like the most obedient person in the world, I gave her my number. And every time our eyes met, I stammered and at one stage I forgot my own number.

I was beginning to feel the heat and my sweat glands began to pour. She must have felt the heat too, as now I found her hands trembling as she was keying in my number. Her voice trembled as she asked me for my name. trying to comfort her I replied back in a soft voice, but that sound that came out of body I guess never made contact with the air around me. She looked at me waiting for me to tell my name. This time though I was loud, and she for a moment silent.

She asked me If I would like to make the payment by Cash/Card?
Yes, this is when the hard reality set in. It was time for me to pay my mobile bill, and walk out, and wait for my next bill so that I could meet her yet again.

The day I met her (Part1)

The time that I had been waiting for had finally arrived. I was all excited in anticipation. Seeing me animated everyone at office sure sensed there was something special about this day. I had a tough time trying to dodge all the questions that kept coming my way all through the day while I was at office. There were already various stories doing the rounds, and I just turned a deaf ear as I was too occupied with just one thought. I kept looking at my watch with desperation as the wait was intriguing. Work no longer seemed important to me, I didn’t know what I was doing as my mind was too occupied.

Today was the day I get to meet her again. It’s been a while since I last met her. 27 days to be precise. I remember the number of days so well, as that was the first time the two of us had spoken. We didn’t speak for long then, may be because it was my first time. I was all scared and sweating, unlike her who was very calm and composed. It’s like it all happened just yesterday, I still remember everything about that day when we spoke first. I guess it would be more appropriate to say the day "She" spoke first. The two of us had met each other on numerous occasions before, but every time the only things that we exchanged were glances. Though I have always wanted to speak to her, I never managed to gather the courage to walk upto her and speak. But last time around, things were different. It was like the heavens had conspired to melt the ice between us, and bring us together. Everything just happened out of the blue that evening.

I had after a lot of pep talk to myself, garnered the courage to walk upto her, but I didn’t know what to speak as I was struggling to stand firm on my feet which was trembling in the just melted ice. My tongue too had fallen cold just like my feet.

Seeing me infront of her, she gently lifted her head and that’s when our eyes met each others for more than a fraction of a minute. She in her elegant best batted her eye lids while I was just not able to take my eyes of her striking eyes that were all appealing in the thick mascara that she applied. Hoping that I would have taken my eyes off her, she looked up again but this time the moment our eyes met, I looked down trying to not make it obvious.

Seeing my discomfort and trying to ease the situation around us, she in her charming voice told me a “Hi!”. I was knocked out of words, as I desperately tried digging deep into my vocabulary so that I could find an apt reply to the most beautiful word that I had ever heard. As her voice kept resonating in my ears, I was lost in the midst of the crowd that surrounded us.

Finally when my mind concluded the most apt reply to what she just said was a “hello!”, her friend just dropped in and pulled her away. I looked helplessly like a young child who was lost in the street. As she was being pulled away by her friend, she reached out her hand towards me as if asking me to hold her back. Our eyes stayed affixed at each other, and very soon I lost sight of her, as she walked away into the crowd.

I did physically walk out of that place that evening, but my thoughts forever lingered around that place. The best moment of my life didn’t last long. But then today the time has come for me to set right things, to put things to prospect. And so I was all excited in anticipation.

My lucky Number

The number “9” has always been very luck for me. Not jus’ because I was born on the 18th and 18 numerological adds up to number 9. But somehow over the years events have reinforced the thought that indeed the number “9” is very special and luck for me.

And so I have always had this strange intuition that when I turn 27(2+7=9), that year would be the year when some real good things will happen in my life, and I want this year to go down as an eventful year in my life. And so far things have just been perfect.

Early April/May was the time I struck gold, it was a double bonanza at work, and bound by terms of confidentiality I cannot disclose the incident here. And then it was my promotion which really caught me by surprise and my joy knew no bound. And if all that was not enough to keep me in air, today I get a mail asking me to be present for an event in the company happening tomorrow, and when I read the reason why? I was ecstatic. Guess what? I just won the “Best Outstanding Performer of the Year” Award. If you personally ask me the reason, I am sure it is because I have been away (standing outside) from my company for the last one year. The spirit dampener though, I will not be able to make it to event. I tried my luck by mailing my HR Manager and asking her if she could arrange my return tickets to Bangalore for the event. She laughed away at my genuine request. HMMH!!!

I hope and pray this year continues to be a lucky year for me, and my lucky number 9 colludes to bring in more good news along the way.

My moments of joy @ work

Good news that comes completely out of the blue always brings with it a whole lot of excitement and joy. Yesterday was one such day for me, where in I was excited and all elated, but staying in a foreign land I didn’t have anyone with whom I could share my joy right away. And I was getting restless to tell someone. And all I did in that excitement was send a mail to my manager asking if the news was rite!!!

Yesterday was the day I got promoted. My 4^thback to back promotion in less than 5 years. This was something that I NEVER expected, and so that makes me all the more excited. And the feeling is a great one.

Come September 1st, I am officially a team lead. God alone save my team.

Happens only with fazal

A foodie only needs a reason to eat out, and today was one such day where the foodie in me got a reason to have a good time along with friends. We went to a leading restaurant in Bangalore for lunch today. We were 5 of us. We selected our choice of buffet and as were waiting for our food, my other three friends stepped out to wash their hands.

In the mean time, as I and my other friend were chatting the waiter came by with a bottle of mineral water and stood beside my friend. He asked us if he could serve us the water? Trying to be cost conscious I told him very politely that we prefer the “Regular Water.”

The waiter smiled, and walked towards me, making sure the lady seated next to me does not hear what he had to say, he came across to my left, and in a very low tone told me, “Sir, this is complementary.”

I gave him that stupid smile of mine not knowing how to react. But I was sure impressed by his presence of mind, and the extra care he took to make sure he does not belittle me in front of a pretty lady. But it’s a different thing that we laughed our hearts out when I told the incidence to everyone once all were back.

To my friend on friendship Day

Call it a coincidence or accident, but it had to happen on this very day when the world celebrates “Friendship Day”. I was searching for something in my wardrobe and I happened to stumble upon a small gift box. Curious to know what was in it, I opened it and it was a mixed emotion when I saw the contents of the box. What was in the box? A friendship band and one small tiny book. Gifted, na given (friends don’t gift, friends only give) to me by my only friend, who has always been and will till eternity be my only treasured friend. Someone who knew me like no one else.

As I read through the pages in the book, the last page made me pause.

It read “friendship is something that we need all the time”. Yes “All the Time”… We don’t get to meet or talk any more. But I know you are around there somewhere all the time for me. Miss you ma friend. Wish you were around. Life has never been the same without you.

The best of fazal always comes when he is left to himself, all alone. This is what happened yesterday.

Being a Sunday I thought I will just roam around in the city, and my friend wanted some electronic gadgets, so thought would enquire about them as well. So I went down to the hotel concierge in the morning and booked a limo to the city. As I was sure I had to take a taxi on the way back to the hotel, I asked the guy at the concierge as to how much would be the taxi fare. He told me around 70RM to 80RM.

Then while I was in the hotel limo on the way to the city, I asked the limo guy to double check on the taxi fare. I didn want to be cheated by the taxi guys. He told me the taxi guy should charge me around 70RM.

I was happy to hear that. As I had just done my homework I was all prepared.

So after having spent the good part of the day roaming around KL, and having done some shopping I was all ready to head back. I wave my hand at one of the taxis. I tell him the destination(My Hotel). He says yes instantly. To act smart, just to let the taxi driver know that he cannot fool me, I ask him what would be the approximate fair. The taxi guy said he had no clue as he is driving to this place for the first time. He asked me how much would I give.

Instantly I felt proud of myself cos I expected this situation, I with lotta attitude told the driver I will NOT give anything more than 60RM. Cos i quoted a full 10RM less (than the fare I was told by my sources), i thought he would bargain. But may be he felt he cannot cheat me, and so He said okay, and agreed that he will put the meter and he would not charge me anything more than that.

And so started my journey. All along I was praising myself for my smartness, and how I didn let someone cheat me. And as to how easy things are in life, provided you do some homework before you head somewhere.

So we finally reached the hotel lobby, the taxi guy stops the meter and looks back at me.

And I am sure that look on my face must have been priceless.

After 2 months

I never realized that someone ACTUALLY reads my blogs!!! I was in for a shock when I received a mail the other day, where in my friend(who claims to be an avid reader of my blog) left me a note saying how much that person was missing my blogs.
It didn't surprise me a bit, it was an insane mail, from a person who had lost sanity thanks to my blogs. But what that mail also did was it reminded me of the fact that I ve a BLOG!!!

Its been very hectic last couple of months. Thanks to all the work at office, the last few months I ve spent in social exile(Read online exile). To me social life is all on the web. To add to my woes, Thanks to all the developments in the recent past, what few friends I had, are now busy with their would be wives. So I dont even have a friend circle with whom I can hang around. It's time to start friend hunting now. If anyone reading this blog is interested, you can please apply at your own risk. Chances are if you are not married, you will sure increase your chances of getting married earlier once you meet me.

Not very sure what to blog, guess its the so called bloggers block. Now that I am again away from home, all alone in a lonely country for two weeks, I am sure I should start finding time for myself.

Expectations!

If fazal were to define the word “Expectation’ it would be –“The single largest root cause of all the misery in the world.”

Over the past few days I have been quite upset with myself, things and people around me. And one thing leads to another and before I even realize what is happening with me, things just start to get all the more worse. And then I am left to brood over as to why I keep finding myself in the same trench time and again.

And unlike the long hours we spend in meeting rooms to brainstorm the root causes of project failures and represent the causes in a form of a fishbone diagram, it hardly even took me a minute to realize why was everything going wrong in my case. All I had to do was put the different events in context. Very soon I could see a definite fish skeleton building up, and the skeleton had only one bone with only one word ‘EXPECTATIONS’.

The irony in this case, is not that I am failing to live up to my expectations. Was that the case, I could ve sure set some realistic expectation, and tried to be contend by being a low achiever and thereby saving myself of all those unmemorable moments in life.

Sometimes I am not sure if it is just me, or is it me just being overtly human? I really expect a lot from people around me. I use the phrase “a lot” not cos what I expect is really a lot, but because no one even comes anywhere close to it. These are the smallest of things, the simplest of things.

As this day makes its way into the history pages of my life, it surely does deserve some space on my blog too.

For some reason my last few b'day eves have always been days when I ve always been in a real bad mood. This b'day eve was no different. I was sure in a real bad mood whole day, thanks to a few events which have been transpiring over the last few weeks.
The good/bad thing about me, when I am really upset I don't really speak to anyone. I try to dig it deep within myself. And yesterday as I was trying to run away from my stream of thoughts which have been eating away into all my brain time, I hit bed early last nite to make sure I don’t over clock my system. I was not at all curios or looking forward to attend any mid night bday calls. So as I was tossing and turning around in my bed, my mobile beeped at sharp 00:00hrs and my room lit up bright with my mobile’s display.

I reached out to read the message………………
It was a cute message, an elephant walking right out of the display towards me.. An elephant who had traveled all the distance to wish me.

This post is to thank my most dear and near friend, “an elephant” whom I lost in this cruel journey called “Life”. Hoping someday we ll meet again…. You simply made my day.

Fazal is already irritated as he is seated on a seat just in front of the emergency exit, and this seat has less leg room, and to make matters worse, it has no seat recline. And his request for a change of seat was not honoured as the flight supposedly was running full capacity.

FA : Sir, I ve Rice with Chicken and Vegetarian Meal, what would you like to have?

(FA Pulls out a sheet of paper, and glances through the list.)
FA : Sir, are you Mr. CHHEEENDAKATH?
fzl : That's Ceendatkath, Yes, Its Me.
FA: Oh, Sorry Sir. You ve Ordered for a Hindu Meal.
fzl : ???? (WHAT)
FA : Sir, here is your meal. (Serves the meal in front of me)
fzl : I want Rice with Chicken and not this!!!!
FA : Sir, but this is your order, and it's been specially made for you.
fzl : I never made any food preference.
FA : Sir, you must ve done it during your flight reservation
fzl : (Huh!!! My Travel Agent!!! I will kill him)
fzl : But I don't eat Vegetarian(YES!!! I don't eat), I need Rice with Chicken!!!

(FA gives fazal, are you traveling for the first time on a flight kinda look. Given a chance she would have rolled up the paper in her hand and hit fazal a 100 times with it)

My Weekend

Its been a relaxing weekend, where in I got to unwind myself from my usual life chores. Now that all my other colleagues had gone back, I was left all alone to the mercy of my own boring company.
And here are a few incidents that happened over this weekend.

First it was @ the breakfast room yesterday. I had ordered for some fresh Roti's to be made for me, and while I was waiting a lady walks towards me and asks me if she was in the queue? I smiled and said "No". As she stood next to me to wait for her turn, she slowly began to lean towards me and got her head close to my ears and whispered, and I quote "I feel really happy, when I see men doing all things women ought to be doing".
I burst out laughing, she was referring to the chef who was a guy. Shows how much women hate men.

For my long stay @ the hotel, the hotel guest relationship manager sends me a Greeting Card, a box of chocolates, some cookies and one pastry with her business card saying I could contact her for any help. That sure was a nice way to make your guests special. Cheerz to Marriott.

I have to this date never shopped alone. Yesterday was my first time. And to add to my adventure I was out shopping for a ladies handbag. I almost walked around the whole mall and visited almost all stores which sold handbags. At most of the stores I got a warm welcome. May be because I was the only guy entering all these stores. I sure felt out of place at times. Then finally I got to this big branded store who had some nice collection. After spending sometime I zeroed in on two handbags. And there was a sales girl standing there, and I asked her if she had any different colors for the models I choose. She showed me all the choices I had. And in no time she realized I was confused. She then told me that there was a mirror in front and I could try how it would look.

I thought for a moment, and then didn like the idea of me standing infront of the mirror with handbags and posing. So I smiled when I got a wicked thought. I asked her if she could help me by putting on the handbags. To my relief she happily volunteered and posed for me with the different handbags. And finally on seeing me confised she herself helped me made a choice. She knew what I liked, and she said " I like this too".
My problem was solved. As she packed the bag and handed over to me, she asked me"For your girlfriend,la"?(Dont ask me what is "la". That's a common usage in Malaysia). I just smiled. She then went on to say "She is a very lucky girl".
And then out of the blue I had to say "Yes, she is! She is happily married to a smarter guy."

It took her a while to understand what I said. Then trying to change the topic, she quickly said, "You are a good guy,la"(La again!!!). "Bag for your sister?" I gave her a how do you know I have a sister kind of look. She pointed at the baby dress I was holding in my hand.( I had done some shopping for my niece.) And then she walked me to the counter, waited till I got the items billed, and then walked me out. Shopping for the first time alone was sure a memorable experience.

Sometimes it's just not your hour

It was time for me to do some shopping for my trip, and so on my way back home yesterday I stopped over at this supermarket.
I picked a shopping basket and moved in. I was trying to reach out one particular product, and I don’t really know what went wrong, the moment I pulled out the product I was looking for, the entire stock kept at that section came crashing down on the floor in a flash. By the very look of it, I was sure the items must been stacked on the rack just a while ago, as everything was tightly crammed in the rack.
The lady at the section came running, and even before she could think of saying anything, I told her what had happened, and didn’t sound guilty about it. Of course it was not my fault. She remorsefully told me that the items had just been arranged a couple of minutes back, and all her hard work was in vain.
Now I had to put up that sorry face.
Trying not to stay around for long, I just turned around and I could hear the next set of items rolling down on the floor. Not again. This time as it was not me, it was my backpack. But the lady around was still the same. This time around to play safe, I instantly apologized to her.
She shook her head in disdain.
I quickly moved out of that section, and moved to pick some other items. I don’t know if it was that lady or the place or that hour, but something was sure jinxed. I HAD to. But luckily this time around it was not as bad as the previous two times. But I did manage to drop a few packets of coffee powder on to the floor. And as I was hoping it goes unobserved, what do I see behind me? The same lady. Even before I could say something this time, she very politely told me “Sir, Let me help you please". And after that she helped me pick the rest of the items that I wanted.

It was really not my hour. Or was it that lady at the supermarket having a bad day?

Slow Down, slow down!!! It's not about what you think. I too was taken for a ride by the topic. And after i read the research piece, I thought may be i too must use the same headline to gather interest.
I found this interesting bit of research piece on the web. It read “Hubbies are 'clueless' on facts about wives“. Curious just like the rest of you, to know what those facts are, there I was reading the piece of article the next minute. To sum up the article, it spoke of the Top five things men don't know about their partner: And the top 5 were

1. What perfume they wear
2. Clothes size
3. Eye colour
4. Date of birth
5. Natural hair colour

And after having read the entire piece of article, I was like "Now what is so shocking about it?" I am sure even most the women/girls ll find themselves baffled about these top 5 facts or should I call them myth.

What perfumes they wear?
Every time a girl walks past me, or I sit with some girl I am always so confused. I am a diehard fan of perfumes. I LOVE perfumes. I have a mini perfume store at home. I have a craze for it. To me you don’t wear a perfume; your perfume is your individuality. So when I am with a girl and I am not able to differentiate between the scent of her perfumes, her creams, her deo’s, and her sun screens, I am SO lost. And I am sure considering the amount of variables that go into a ladies makeup, she herself ll not be able to distinguish. So why blame the poor guy?

Natural hair Color?
The only time a guy can be sure about a girls/women’s hair color is when he sees a women/girl with grey hair. And I am sure we men will always remember the natural color. From Ebony, to blond, burgundy, copper, henna red, dark ash to chestnut to Swedish.. I don’t even know if the set is a finite or is it an infinite set. A girls hair color changes so frequently that I am sure ask a girl after a few years and she herself won’t remember what was her natural hair color.

Clothes size?
Haha. Go out shopping with a girl and you ll know why I laugh? She ll pick a size silently for her, and then she ll step out of the trail room and then come to you, and say “The dress is too big isn’t it”? And even before you can nod your head, there she would be trying all possible sizes that she would ve tried once upon a time during her childhood days and she would finally squeeze into something which sure defies the ratio of proportion. So, does the poor female soul herself know her dress size?

Eye Color?
Thanks to contact lens these days, there is no way a guy can tell the natural color of a girl’s eyes. A smart guy like me ll be able to tell when a girl is wearing a contact lens. There is an easy give away. You ll just need to look hard into her eyes; make sure you don’t get lost in them.. Thanks to someone special who thought me this.

Date Of Birth?
I have always been taught from the day I was born to never ask a girls age. So I dare not ask a girl, her date of birth.

So to conclude, all women are equally clueless about the 5 myths stated above. May be God himself. To put it in a larger context, the very creation called women is something I am sure we men will never understand. We can at best only admire them. There is always something new about the women we always think we know. And maybe that’s what keeps us interested in them. After all we all like changing seasons don’t we.

It happened this morning.

I get into the hotel lift from my floor and am on my way down to the lobby. There was this girl also in the lift along with me. On an intermediate floor, two people hopped in and instantly struck a conversation with me. We were two foreigners in a foreign land.

Just as were about to get off the lift, the man turns around and tells “Nice pair, enjoy your honeymoon, have fun”.

I look around and I have no words to describe the look on the girls face. Simply priceless!!!

Since this day last year, our lives have all changed. You have been our centrifugal force.

It was on this very day one year back more or less at the same time of the day 3:30 am that I first saw you. It was a cold nite in Bangalore and you were all shivering and all curled up trying to make yourself warm then. With your fingers tightly clutched and your eyes closed, you were in your grannies hand, your dad and your only uncle(ME) were standing around you admiring you and unable to take our eyes off you.

You didn't disappoint us a bit from the word go. You opened your tiny little eyes and gave us the view of your sparkling little eyes. Our joy knew no bound. All excited we looked at each other trying to come to terms that this was not a dream. But reality. Our much awaited little one in the family had finally arrived.

And today when I sit to blog, and when today I see you rite infront of my eyes as I blog I still feel its a dream. I feel I am blessed to be with you on this day as you turn one :)

I love seeing you sway with the wind as you learn to walk steady on your own feet, the sight of you dancing when you watch your favorite cartoon, the way you come and wake me up every mornings, the way you take me for those long walks everyday and the way you make me do the most stupid of things, and especially the way you call me "Oyeee" in the pitch of yours when I ignore you. I simply love it.

You ve helped me shed my age. You ve tought me happiness lies in small things. You ve made me creative. Everyday I am made to think of all innovative ways to make you laugh. And I am glad you don't let me down. For everything that I do, you always laugh making me smile.

The year that went by

As the year 2009 draws to an end, it’s time to reflect back. Overall it’s been a good year. Though I ve had some really tough moments to endure, guess certain events overshadow those not so memorable moments which I would never want to relive.

It’s been a year of global financial slump, where in I have seen my friends, my colleagues, my cubicle mates, my project mates, many of them getting laid off. It was never easy, with the constant fear lurking all around you. I am glad that I did manage to see off that period successfully, and I am glad it’s over. It’s also been a year where in my Salary hike has been dormant. Instead they gave me an out of turn promotion to compensate the no-hike!!!

It’s also been a year of emotional recession. Very few in life are gifted with friends with whom we don’t have to think what we speak. They are like those dump yards, where we can dump all our thoughts, They are like our punch bags, on whom we thrust our anger when we are angry, they re like those relaxing lavish couches on whom you can lean back, unwind and have a pleasant chat after a exhausting day. They are people who fill in all the gaps in your life. Losing a friend is never easy.

It’s also been a year, wherein I have spent more than half of the year being home alone. I simply HATE being home alone these days. It’s like a curse to me to be alone in life.

It’s been a year of personal financial mess. When I was cheated by people whom I least anticipated would ever do such a thing. I had to sell my car, worse still; the money is yet to come by. And the person is aloof. It’s been a year where in the people whom I helped monetarily started avoiding me jus’ cos they were not able to pay me back. In the process I have learnt never again to trust people easily henceforth.

All said, trying to look at the better side of the year 2009, if I were to choose “THE BEST MOMENT” of the year 2009 and also one of the best moment of my entire life so far, I have no second thoughts; it has to be Wednesday 7th of Jan 2009. The day I came to realize that; at times, love happens at the very first sight. The day my smart little, handsome nephew Aman was born (Meet Aman). Perfect Start for the New Year.

Just when things were looking bad and I needed a desperate break from Bangalore, I managed to get one in the form on an onsite trip. A perfect Vacation (Supposed to be an official trip) at Malaysia. A perfect place to unwind.

As the year draws to a close, I am looking forward to start the year 2010 with someone whom I always long to be these days. A full 10 day vacation with Aman. All excited about the vacation. And then from there it’s off to Malaysia for another 2 weeks on business. Great way to start the year 2010.

And look who is complaining! The same people who have the most cumbersome and insane visa rules and are especially biased against WE Indians. Always I used to wonder why are we so easy and welcome these people with red carpets when we are never welcome in their land.

Jul 2005, Fresh out of college, with some flying scores and a Bachelors Degree in Information Technology, I was all fretful when I set feet into the job market. While in college I had only taken up one campus recruitment test and I went all the way to the final round and didn't make it in the end. I had lotta hopes pinned up then.
I was very keen and desperate to pick a job as early as possible, cos then I had some promises to keep. There was someone waiting for me and it was not just my prospect but our future which was to take shape. I wanted to settle down abroad and before I made that leap I wanted to ensure I had some experience with me and at the same time, I also wanted to make sure I was self dependent before I could speak to my potential in-law's.

As I kept trying for jobs, it was not a good experience to start off with. Walk-in is never easy. Sometimes I would just come back not getting a chance to be able to make my way through the crazy mob that used to gather in front of the centres. Made two futile attempts at two different companies and didn’t even make it through the written aptitude rounds.

It was on one such day in Nov 2005 that Chetan(My friend/my classmate) calls me up and asks me to come to Koramangala as there were a few openings in the company which he jus joined. I rushed. I gave my written tests. An aptitude test, a technical paper and then an essay round. The lady HR said she would get back by EOD(End of Day)

While I was heading back home, the HR calls me and informs me that I have cleared my written rounds, and then I would have group discussion the following day. So then it was the round of GD. 3 rounds of GD with some really strong contenders. I managed to survive. And then we were taken trough the technical rounds of interview the same day. And in the end, I felt positive I would make it through. I got a call the next day saying I have been selected and I could come and take my offer letter. I was all ecstatic. It was my first job and I knew it was important for me to keep moving and not fritter away time.

And it was on this very day, 4 years back 13th of Nov 2005 that I joined Aztec. There is something else about the date 13th. My Kismat Connection was born on this eventful date; fortunately for me not the same year (Sad Joke). The journey from Aztec to Aztecsoft to Mindtree has been really a great experience with my career growth on the fast lane. Four years and four back to back promotions is something I can brag of. Have been really privileged in that sense for having worked with some real great leaders (I wouldn't call them managers). I have learnt a lot. I am still learning, and will continue to learn.

4 years is not something I had foreseen when I started. But then there were lotta other things which I had never foreseen back then. I have lost something that I never wanted to let go, and somehow the thought always continues to haunt me. May be that is one reason I have always tried to keep myself engaged in work. My effort along with my share of good fortune has taken me places. From Austria to Germany to Italy and now to Malaysia. I am travelling around the globe.

All said, it's been a memorable 4 years and something that I can showcase in my resume. It's a different thing and ironical that my technical knowledge does not reflect my years of technical experience. May be that's why I find people around me these days telling, "Fazal, you are wasting your life here." Not sure if I'll complete my 5th year in this industry. Time will tell.

So time for thanksgiving again. I ll make it short. And interestingly the reasons for my success so far have all been women. My mom, My sis and My lost love. Thanks to the three of you. My mom for all her prayers, my sister for all her support, my lost love for being my reason to live.

Lessons in life

It was a hot day and I was sitting by the pool and trying to beat the heat. In the meantime a lady came along with her little baby. The baby must have been barely 6-7 months. This I can say with self-assurance cos since the time Aman was born I am aware usually by what age kids to what. So by seeing this tiny tot I knew the kid was around 6-7 months old. Being the person that I am who is very very fond of kids, I kept observing the kid and it was fun to see the kid jumping around in its mom's hand. As I kept watching this lady, she did something which I never ever anticipated.

She got down with her baby into the pool. The baby's face and the expression on its face was a sight to my eyes. The water must have been really freezing for the baby. Within a few seconds the baby was beating its leg in the water and it was sure enjoying the moment.

I ve read about such things being common in the west. But this is the first time I had ever seen such a spectacle. And I was overjoyed by the sheer look on the babies face when it put its feet in the water. And at the same time I was left to reflect.

We in India particularly, I can never imagine an Indian mom doing the same to her baby. I don’t even think any mom will get her baby even close to a swimming pool, let alone get the baby into the water. We in India are generally over protective, we guard kids from the whole lot, and in some ways over the period make them dependent and vulnerable. I am sure this baby that I saw today will know how to swim even before most Indian kids learn to walk steady on their feet.

I am reminded of a anecdote of how a man found a cocoon of a butterfly and he kept watching the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it had and it could go no further. Then the man decided to help the butterfly, so he took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily. But it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings. The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that, at any moment, the wings would enlarge and expand to be able to support the body, which would contract in time.

Neither happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings. It never was able to fly.

What the man in his kindness and haste did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and the struggle required for the butterfly to get through the tiny opening were nature’s way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon.

Trying to draw a parallel analogy, we Indian's in the process of showering extra care towards our kids end up hindering our kid’s growth in the long run.

Just take this for an example.

A kid is running fast, it falls. It's a slight fall. You re there and you see it happen and you also know nothing would ve happened to the kid. But you run to pick the kid and you are all worried. Seeing the worry on your face, the kid starts to cry; also by this time the kid knows crying is the best way to grab attention. And so what you do is, in the process you deny the kid a opportunity to learn. A valuable lesson is gone astray. The kid from this time forth will only cry every time it falls.

Picture this in contrast, the same kid same place; jus that you act as if you ve not seen the kid fall. The kid looks around, and then seeing no one has seen it, gets up and starts to run again. He is happy and continues to run along, and as a parent you should be proud that your kid can live in this fierce world of today.

Life without obstacles would cripple us. Was it not for struggles we would not be as strong as what we could have been.

Oflate I find more and more people uttering the same thing to me. People often keep saying" Fazal, you should not have been in the IT field, you should have been in a different field."

Now this could mean two things
a) It's said, you cannot hide facts from people for too long. Truth will eventually surface. Could be people have sooner than I hoped, come to realize that fazal is totally unfit for a software job.

b) It could also mean that my talent is going un-utilized in the IT industry. My strenghts are different. My core competencies are different. Which if i can work on, I can leverage things.

Time to self introspect. I can sense change round the corner.

Touching story..

This is one touching piece of story i found on the net today. Ah, this broke my heart, but the story is too touching not to share. Excuse me while I, erhm, dry my eyes. Got dust in ‘em or something.

When 6-year-old Elena Desserich was diagnosed with brain cancer, she began hiding hundreds of little love notes around the house for her parents to find after she was gone. Here’s the story:

Just before her sixth birthday, Elena Desserich (the pretty girl right on the top of the post) was diagnosed with brain cancer and given 135 days to live. She lived 255 days, passing away in 2007. After her death, Elena’s parents, Brooke and Keith, found hundreds of notes from Elena hidden around the house — in between CD cases, between bookshelves, in dresser drawers, in backpacks….

"It just felt like a little hug from her, like she was telling us she was looking over us"

Elena left hundreds of notes like the ones you see in the pics above.

Elena’s parents, Brooke and Keith Desserich, have now published these notes in a book called Notes Left Behind to fund a non-profit organization The Cure Starts Now dedicated to fighting pediatric brain cancer.

I am a big time foodie. A guy with a good appetite for tasty food and esp spicy food. From the time I set foot in Kaula Lumpur till my last meal that I had, have all been different. Everyday, I experiment a new Cuisine. From Chinese, to Japanese, to Thai, to Indonesian to Malaya to Italian to Spanish. Have tasted it all here. I have never experimented with myself to such an extent.

And today was a day when even my system gave in. I had a real bad stomach the whole day today. And I again did something which I had never done before. Drink Barley Water. Yes!!! You heard me right. It's been a trip of many first times.
It's been a real exciting trip so far. But after today I have decided to take it slow. My System needs time.

All said, there is this one Malaysian Dish that I would recommend to All. A MUST eat Desert. It's called Cendol. Made of Coconut Milk, Red Beans, Grass Jelly, palm sugar. Its really a very refreshing Desert when served cold. I tasted in last Friday and since then I have been going in search of it everywhere I go to eat.

Malaysia, First Impression

It’s been a week since I touched base at Kuala Lumpur(KL). Before coming to this place I had a notion that this is a very conservative country. (Courtesy: The news where in a Malaysian Model was sentenced to be canned for the reason that she had consumed alcohol which is against Islam. It’s crazy , first you sell, and give people a chance to drink, and then you yourself go ahead to punish them.) But a weeks stay in this commercial cum tourist capital and I wonder was all that drama about canning in Malaysia or some other country. The Malaysia I have seen over the week is a very modern Malaysia. Where in people are rarely even clothed to cover the bare minimum. The majority population of Malaysia is Chinese. And a visit to any mall or the city and you ll find only these people all over the city. They literally rule the city. Drinks, girls all are available at the drop of the hat. The gulf region is better I feel. One month I Dubai and I have never seen things like I have seen here in the one week.

All said Malaysia is a beautiful place, an ideal location to holiday. With some state of art infrastructure, they are a very developed nation. And the most ideal location for women to shop too. They have so many shopping options. Most of the malls and stores are kinda exclusively meant for women. And if ever you spend say 2 to 3 hrs at some mall, you ll be so accustomed to seeing the white skinned Chinese women/girls everywhere. At one moment you ll find it very hard to differentiate between a mannequin and a Chinese women.

The best part of my visit so far has been my hotel stay. In a far away Resort cum Hotel well outside the city. A place I would recommend to people if ever they only want to come and relax. Every day after a tiring day at office, it’s so relaxing to step into the hotel. Every evening there is a lady who comes and plays some really melodious and relaxing piano from 18:00 hrs to 20:00 hrs at the hotel lobby cum café. Later you have live music, where they play only soft music, music on request playing all the way to mid-night. Just buy a cup of coffee and sit there, relax and enjoy the music. That’s my evening these days. Too good. So next time you want to get away from your busy life, head to Holiday Inn, Glenmarie, KL.

Flying to Malaysia

Time for another official trip. But when I said the place to people, all were like are you going on a vacation or on work?

That way, I must consider myself fortunate. After having been on a mini-euro trip it's now time to head to Malaysia. Europe was an exotic location. A great place to laze, a place ideally meant for lazy folks like me. Google for the worlds best places to live/holiday, and in that 70% of the places are in Europe. And one visit and you'll come to accept as to why these places are deserving of the title they hold.

While in Europe I was totally disconnected from my world of blogging, and missed out on many of my travelogues and adventures (read mis-adventures)

Hopefully I should be connected during this trip to Malaysia.

Seeing her go...

I told her I would leave office early and at any cost make sure I am there at the promised time.

But as always, every time I have something imperative outside office, something or the other goes wrong. At 5PM she gives me a call asking where am I? Yes, that was the time I had promised her that I would be there.

I didn’t have to explain, like always even before I could say she understood and asked me by what time latest could I make it. I told her in another hour’s time I would make sure I am there.

And finally at 6 I managed to leave office. Thanks to Diwali Eve Rush, I was trapped in swarming traffic. Somehow making my way through frenzied traffic I hurried.

Finally I made it. She looked at me; she smiled and then looked at the time. And gave me this look. I, as always gave a dumb look and a remorseful smile.

She is used to this by now. She didn't say anything, and just smiled back.

Being guilty of having made her wait and having messed up her plans for the evening, I asked her if there was something I could do.

She in her every comforting voice told me that she is more than happy and at the same time glad that I didn’t make her wait any further.

It was the day she was supposed to leave. It was again one such day in my life, which I always dread, letting go people whom I love. It was time for her go, and in the process depart from someone to whom she meant all his world.

It was time for my Mommy dear to join sister, jeej and her little grandson whom she misses the most. Mom was completely prepared. She had done all her packing, she had all her travel documents ready and she had her own checklist in her mind which she kept checking it time and again to ensure everything was in place.

After having dropped her at the airport I was standing outside and waiting for mom to get her boarding pass. Silently I watched her go through all the process and once she got her boarding pass, mom came out and told me "I have got my boarding pass. You go back now and take care".

Did I shed a silent tear? I don’t know. But it was nice to see mom totally in charge, totally poised, totally calm. Mom over the years has become more composed thanks to an irresponsible son like me.

Sometimes in life we get to see our parents grow in front our eyes. And in that too they go on to teach us a lesson, as to how important it is to not make your life dependent on someone.

Was working late at office today, and normally when I am late I drive Cruise Control when I am on full throttle. A normally law abiding driver in me, once it is late nite looks right, looks left and if does not see Maama(that's how we address traffic cops in this part of the world) around, Jumps the traffic Signal provided there is no traffic.

Today was one such day again. After having a good day at office and an even greater time in all the meetings today, I was all happy and so was happily driving back home relaxed and happily jumping signals at will.

But then sometimes you don't really know, why is that you act the way you would normally never.

I jus' applied brakes at one of the signals and was least worried to move, whereas people behind me gleefully overtook me and jumped the signal.

I could not stop laughing at myself, when I saw 3 maamaas jumping infront of these vehicles from no where for having jumped the traffic signal.

That's when it struck me.. "Lucky By Chance".

My Health Report

Of late, on a regular basis I get to see this particular advertisement on Television which gives out starling facts as to, how many People in India have heart related ailments and how this figure is gonna get worse over the years. And the add goes on to encourage people to take an online test which is supposed to be scientifically based. At the end of the test you will get to know how less a time you have in your life and how many pending items you have in your action list, called life. A bigger tension though is that, after the test, your health is sure to deteriorate even further seeing the results. Sometimes being ignorant helps.

Today, however I shed my ignorance and decided to take up the test. Thanks to my office hours, I have the opulence to do things which I otherwise would have never done.. I went to their website, the signup process is very swift, will take you less than a minute. Fortunately they jus' ask you your email id, and not your phone number. So no one should have a dilemma signing up.

Quite expected!!!. I knew I was slightly overweight(YES!!! you heard me rite, ONLY SLIGHTLY). I know I have very high stress levels, thanks to work and my way of life where in I take some issues and people very personally. It’s a fact I very rarely do any physical activity, again thanks to my nature of work and my ever lazy bones.
But there was something I didn't understand!!! "Elevated Resting Heart Rate" What is that??? Is my heart resting and not beating??? Or does it imply that, to save my heart of all heartbreaks, I have kept my heart away from everyone at an elevated place? If yes, that is also a known fact.

And one point that I liked in the report which made me smile...

“Your Heart Age May be marginally Older than your Age"

So that puts my age at 26, but how old or older is my heart??? Could it also mean that, I am more mature for my age???? :)
I should tell this mom, she always says I still act like a kid.

I was going through my orkut profile and was navigating through the section "photos of me".
For people who are new to orkut, it's a section where the photos in which you ve been tagged are displayed.

There is one thing common to most of my friends, they re very creative in whatever little things they do.
This friend of mine had tagged different people with their traits. And being the ever curious person that I am, there I was the very next second hovering my mouse over different traits to see what best describes fazal according to this friend of mine.
And this is what I found. Fazal - "flirtoo"!!!

Curiosity sure did kill the cat this time.
At times it's appealing to know what people think about you, especially if they happen to be your friends. And then you know what is wrong with you.

Moving on, jus' a few days back while I was busy doing what I do the best -"Googling and surfing". I found this bit of piece of research article, and it instantly brought a grin on my face.
The article read “More than half of internet users search for ex-lovers online". And no guesses, why that grin on my face. May be I have moved on to a great degree esp. over the past few months, but there was sure this phase in my life when I used to Google/search for my lady love on the net.

Work after a long time seems to be getting exciting and is helping me dust my grey cells back again. Working from an all new location, with a whole new set of individuals and on a new proposal from scratch, work really is getting demanding. It's a nice feeling when I see my office outlook Calendar on certain days crammed with meetings. It gives you a sense of responsibility and a feeling that you re growing at your work place. But that is certainly not the reason why I have not been blogging.

As we step into our 63^rd year of Independence, here is wishing everyone a Happy Independence Day. Let the true spirit of Independence prevail for years to come. Thanks to the swine flu scare that has engrossed Bangalore it has not been an independent weekend. I have been more than happy to confine myself to the comforts of my home.

After having worked at odds time of the day, day in and day out, every now and then 24 x 7 like any other techie, my computer, the only person who always obeyed my directives, gave up this Friday. It simply refused to boot. Convinced about my limited knowledge of computer hardware I tried my best to revive it. But all in vain. The poor thing has worked 8 x 7 on all weekdays and has worked 24 x 7 on all weekends and holiday for the last 6 years. I was having this uncanny thought whether this is a case of sibling rivalry? Did I start ignoring my system after I got myself a laptop??? From the time I have got my laptop I have been more hooked to my laptop as it keeps me mobile. Though my laptop is anytime far advanced in performance, for all my mundane work I guess I still prefer to fall back to my desktop as it is more rugged unlike my Vaio which is more a delicate darling.

For quite a long time now I have always loved women with nose piercing, and for some time now I have been really a great admirer of women with nose piercing. I remember even tweeting about it a few days back after I met this girl who had a nice little nose piercing. Yesterday I was watching this movie on TV and when I saw the pretty Trisha with a nose piercing; my feeling that women look much prettier with a nose piercing was reinforced. So I have made up my mind, if ever I get married or if ever someone does agree to risk her future in my hand, I ll try everything possible to talk into her the idea of getting her nose pierced. I have heard diamonds are a girl’s best friend. Don’t we get diamond studs for nose? I hope someone is reading.

Guess tweeter is spoiling me. You must have already seen the effect of tweeting on this blog. It’s all so random. On second thoughts life is all about randomness rite?

About love

What is the logical end for love? Or is there a something called end for love? Is love or can love ever be eternal?

Ask anyone who has been in love, and they ll tell you how exciting and how great a feeling it is to fall in love. The same person will also agree that it's very difficult to stay in love. Love is all about trust, emotions, tons of compromises, knowing each other's pulse, sacrifice. Love cannot exist between two people if either of the above said personas is not present.

To some, marriage is the logical conclusion for love. The moment they feel they ve got married to the one they love they feel their love has succeeded. To some, the moment their love gets married to some other person, they feel their love has failed.

I always admire people who honour their commitment in love and get married to the one. I have been lucky to have many such friends. And it's always a joy when you see them.

Last Week I met a friend of mine, who has been married for less than a year now. And yes, he is one of those fortunate guys to have married his lady love. And I have known his wife also equally well. She too happens to be a good friend of mine. While I was speaking to this guy, and a while into the conversation he spoke about how his married life has been in total peril and how the two were contemplating divorce.

I took me a while to digest all that what he was saying, as to me the word "divorce" up to that very moment only existed in a society that I was not a part off.

Do people fall in love, make vows to each other, let go their families and get married to the one they love only to finally part ways? If you have to part ways, why unite in something as solemn as marriage in the name of love?

It makes no sense to me, when two people who once could never imagine a life without each other get married and then one fine morning they only want to live a life without each other!!!

There are random thoughts in my mind..

But before I end this blog there is one thing that I would like to say....

You can get married to your love, and then if your marriage is not successful, then you ve failed in love. You might not be fortunate enough to have married the one in your life, but then that does not mean your love has failed.

Marriage or no marriage, as long as you care for that one person, your love has always succeeded...

An executive lunch

It was that time of the day again, when our stomach begins to grunt. And jus’ like an idle mind is devils workshop, an idle day is feast time for the tummy. Decided to go for a buffet lunch, at one of the very eminent restaurants in Koramanagala. And started off with lunch, after finishing the starters moved on to the main course and while I was relishing the dish, to my utter dismay I realized something. I had just stumbled upon a big secret. A secret, which would very soon reveal as to why the items tasted so mouth-watering. Yes, the secret ingredient was no longer a secret!!!!

When I did tell the restaurant manager about what I had just stumbled upon and threatened to expose it, he was literally on his feet. So much so that he offered me and my friend a free lunch. And we were given a VVIP treatment till the moment we stepped outta the restaurant.

I shall not make public the name of the restaurant here, for people who really wanna know, contact me. But I certainly would like to unveil the ingredient which these people use at will in almost all their delicacies. This is not my first experience; this is my 3rd experience at the same bloody damn place. Disgusting... I am made a vow never to enter the sickening restaurant again in my life.

And for people who are still curious, I was served Cockroaches in my lunch Buffett!!!!

Shopping For Aman

Shopping for Aman is always an effortless job. All that fazal uncle needs to do is make sure I pick up everything that I like. It saves me from the trouble of having to make a choice. And yesterday was one such day. Mom and I had been out shopping.

@ The Store
Me : We need a dress for a 1yr old baby boy (Aman is only 6 months old. But Masha Allah, he is a healthy boy, and a tall boy like his dad)
(Shop guy starts spreading out some t-shirts)
Mom : Can you show some other items. We dont want t-shirts
(Shop guy starts to show some pedal pushers)
Me : Maa, Aman already has so many pedal pushers!!!
(But like I said, shopping for Aman is easy, we ended up liking two dresses and kept them aside.)
Mom : Don't you have anything else?
(Shop guy shows some shirts)
(Mom gets irritated)
Mom : Don't you have items like Kurta/Payjama for kids?
(He did show us a few, but all were too big for Aman, We were disappointed)
Shop Guy : No Madam, we don't have it for such young kids.
Mom : Dont you have any other designs?
Shop Guy : Madam, These are the only selection you ll find for boys. And I have shown you all
(Mom looks at me and then looks at all the dresses displayed all over the store)
Mom : See for girls they have so many nice dresses and so many variety.
Me : (Smiling) No wonder we guys don’t waste time shopping.

Little surprise that most women want a baby girl.
All said it's true; it's always difficult to dress up a baby boy. I wonder if shopping for Aman to me is so easy given the limited range of choice, how easy would it have been was it a baby girl.

@ Aman - But don't you worry my little guy, if not for dresses, fazal uncle ll sure flood you with a range of toys and gadgets in the days to come.... I ll do everything that I can to make sure you are a spoilt kid :) H

There are some things in life which become inseparable over time, and Mozilla Firefox is one such fixation in my life.. Normally any new thing in life, takes some time to get used to it, but this was one such utility that the very first time I tried my hands on it, I was totally in love with.
When Mozilla Firefox 3 was set for release, Mozilla attempted to set a World Record by trying to attempt for the most software downloads in 24 hours. And I am proud to be associated with it. For which I got this.

But FF3.x came with it's set of flaws and it was dis-liked by most. Everyone felt FF2.x was far better. But with each newer version Mozilla did well to fix all the flaws.
And finally a version FF3.5 was released. It is said to have 5 killer features of which two are of my interest.
One being New JavaScript Engine: TraceMonkey. The new engine promises performance improvements when running heavy JavaScript web applications and pages
The other being Private Browsing. In private browsing mode, Firefox doesn’t save your browsing, search, download, or web form histories, or your cookies, or temporary Internet files.
But all the best things said, what annoys me the most now is, most of my FireFox plugins are no longer working with this newer version. And that kind of paralyzes my work.
I am being FORCED to use other browsers now. "Mozilla" this is not the way to go....

Today was a day to burry myself Alive.. Jus' a few days back, I was reading a blog post which read "Are you jealous of Me"... Today I met a couple of my juniors who were working with me at office. One being a one year junior and the other being a 2 year junior.. One after the other, these two gave me news which left me in awe.

One person has bought a brand new Honda City. No BIG deal you might squabble. But buying the car from one’s personal savings is indeed something laudable. Rs.8 Lakh Personal Savings!!! I was like... "Did you even live your life in the last 2 years"!!!!

The second person has bought a new fully furnished flat. I hope mom is not listening. She ll sure miss a heart beat if she hears this.
I really wonder if these two are into things which they should not be into.... Smuggling? Bank Robbery??? Or did they hack into someone's bank account???

But all those things apart, I wonder where is “All MY money”??? Why does money always elude me????
I was reading this piece of article jus' a few minutes back, and then it struck me, as to why "Fazal" is so poor... Here's why...

Been quite a while since I posted my last blog post, hence this....

Today on my way to office I was counting the number of traffic signals that I have to pass each morning. And the last signal that I counted on my way today was signal number 19!!! YES!!! That's the number of traffic signals that I need to cross every morning on my drive to office, not taking into account the manned signals. For a distance of 18kms, 19 Signals! Welcome to "Bangalore"...

I always used to think, that life of people who work in RnD must be fun, as they get to do whatever they want and try new things which no one would have even thought. Guess a typical example of grass on the other side is always green. For the last 3 weeks, I have been into a RnD team, a newly formed team with a specific objective to achieve. But ever since, I find myself SO lost. I don't know what to do, and what I have been doing. If today someone comes and asks me what have you been doing over the last few weeks, I will only have my smile to show...

July6th was sister's 4th Wedding Annv. It's been 4 long years. And Aman turned 6mnts old on 7th of this month. Seriously miss him... Sis was saying that the little guy is busy doing push ups these days!!! Yes, he is trying his best to get his ass moving ;) very soon my little Aman will start to crawl. Alhamdulillah...

There are lot of things which are going wrong in my life presently. Have a feeling sooner or later something is gonna give in and there is gonna be some serious change in the near future... Hope and pray for the best....

It’s been roughly a month since I had posted that blog, and for some reason I never went on to complete it.

I am certain most of my friends are gonna come and thrash me up after reading this. And many will whole heartedly, without the slightest consideration detach themselves from the views I express here.

But then it’s MY blog, so I get to blog what I want, and you meagre readers are left to my mercy...

Haven’t received any comments or views for my previous post, so I am not quite sure as to how many concur with my opinion expressed.. Sincerely it’s very intricate to reflect and understand a women’s mind. You can always expect the unexpected. Now you might argue saying what’s the fun in being predictable..

But hold on, women are indeed predictable; we can for eternity expect something unexpected from them :)

Coming back to what men really look for in their prospective better halves? I guess we men are clear cut and so that saves our time and oomph. I guess I can minimally end this post in one decree, by saying, most men jus’ go for pure “looks” . And thank god, beauty is subjective...

As a rule, to most men; its jus, untainted looks that matter. If the girl is appealing in looks, then most men ll go a long way in compromising tons of other things.. From all my friends/relatives/others who have been through this ordeal of bride hunt, I have on more than one occasion heard the same things.. She is too short/tall/thin/fat/dark/too fair/... I have barely ever heard someone say she was way too shy/ she was very outspoken or things like that.

On a lighter note.... While women tend to be more pragmatic and sensible in selecting their better halves, men are not. Most men have given up hopes of finding a girl who is sensible and level-headed. Therefore Men have learnt to live with the fact that “there is no constant factor concerning a woman”. What she is today, is not what she is tomorrow or for that matter the next minute.. hehe... So no point in slaying time going behind something that is fictional, so better settle for looks.. Men by and large always want something that they lack, so it’s no surprise that we go after looks ;)

And to all those women reading, don’t feel offended, this is no female bashing blog. As a fore thought, your randomness in opinion and actions is what keeps us men on our feet and always attracted. What is the fun in life, when life becomes predictable? You spice up our lives....
