Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus…

Don’t get confused by my blog title, it’s by no means a review of the book by John Gray. But my blog sure goes on to substantiate the fact that men are indeed from Mars and women from Venus. Read on…

“Everyone wants to marry Aishwarya Rai”, “You think you re Abishek?, that you wanna marry Aishwarya?”… How many times have we not heard such sentences. To most Indians, Aishwarya is someone who defines beauty. (honestly I don’t like her, she might be beautiful, but not someone I admire or dream off..)
We humans, or I guess I won’t be wrong to admit that most Men are more inclined towards women who are good looking( this would include both naturally n artificially good looking). Now whether this is an overstated statement is a matter of debate.

Over the last couple of years, most of my friends and many of my relatives have been into this bride/groom hunt and from what I have heard from their experiences I can clearly draw a trend line… There is stark difference in what the two sexes look for in each other.

What are the things that men really look for in a potential bride and what are the things that women really look for in their prospective better halves… ???

Umm.. I ll start with the trends I have seen amongst females..
:) Very rarely have I heard a female speak of liking or not liking a guy solely for the reason that the guy is good/ not so good looking. Something that I have observed is that women are more realistic when it comes to matters that they know are beyond a guys control. (So guys it’s never looks)

:) Women are more keen on things which we men hardly observe or pay importance to. The 5-10 minutes the guy and the girl spend with each other talking in private is like time spent in the war room. I have heard girls complain about things like, that guy was way too talkative, he was too silent, he was too shy, he didn’t know what to speak… He was being too formal.. He was very serious..
So what this means? Women like men who can speak well and men who can keep them interested by talk, they like someone who can make them smile if not laugh. In fact I remember a friend of mine telling me, that she fell for this guy whom she got married to by his very opening sentence. He had infact asked her a question.. And what was that Question? Na.., that’s something, I plan to put to test and try my luck ;) if it does work for me, I ll update my blog then….

:) Women are more interested about how well the guy is settled, how successful the guy is in his career. How secure his life his.. How well educated he is.. And all such related stuff. And more than the girls, these are things which of course the girls family ll be more particular about. I have heard of cases, when the guys were asked to produce their birth certificates(Age verification) and in some cases even their pay slips to prove their take home!!! (The only time I had to submit my pay slip n Age proof is when I had apply for a credit card, and I love the freedom the card gives me… So when I hear of such incidences I cant but draw an analogy … Parents re synonymous to a Credit Card Issuing bank, and the girl is a credit card who gives me an interest free loan. I am sure, we all men ll be happy to submit our pay slips now)

:) Now this is one area in which I have seen different inclinations, where people are not quite sure what they want. Many a times they want both.. Though most of them prefer guys who are settled abroad, there are girls who are particular about guys who are settled at the same place as some girls prefer to stay close to their home.

:) A trend that is very common amongst girls these days, is that they want to continue working even after marriage, and they prefer a husband who is supportive of the cause (Considering the present global situation, I don’t think any guy ll ever object to his wife working)

In short, girls are more practical when it comes to selecting their better halves. They take very calculated risks and are very conscious before they make up their mind. Girls are never really on the look for fair and handsome guys, they jus prefer a guy who is neat and clean. (So guys stop wasting your time on all those beauty products)
Now that is my version of what females look for, from what I have heard and observed….

Now I come to the part what “Men really look for” on which I ll be able to give a better insight. Cos I ve heard enough and heard it all :)
In the mean time do let me know what is your take and share your experiences if any…
I shall complete this topic in my next post..

The fast receding line...

There is a saying in Malayalam… “kashandi kum, penungalle kushumb innum oru meranum illa”…. Na, don’t break your head, I know you all are as bad as me in Malayalam. Literally translated, the sentence means, “There is no cure/medicine for baldness and women’s gossips“

“Baldness” is a big worry to most men, and especially to me whose hair line is fast receding. Receding at an alarming rate. I guess very soon I will have to declare my hair “an endangered species”.

It’s really a matter of grave concern to me each time I stand in front of the mirror and have a look at myself, especially every morning soon after bath. Each passing day, I can feel my head growing in size (May be it’s due the enormous knowledge that I have been gathering over the last few years.)

This time while I was at the saloon getting my hair cut, my hair designer added to my woes by saying my hair was getting very thin and I need to take extra care. He was worried to lose a loyal customer who has been with him for the last 10 years plus.

Most people in my family try console me seeing my anxiety. My sister’s Father-in-law always tells me “Baldness is a sign of manliness, so feel happy. ” Coming to think of it, it’s true, I don’t agree when some men say that moustache is a sign on manliness, I am sure most of you must have seen women with a thin moustache :) (But thank god, its changing, I am glad most women are conscious these days)

Baldness is in my genes. It’s something that I have inherited thanks to my paternal genes. But I guess nature is being unfair on me. I hate the thought of being bald, especially at such an young age. I am sure it’s only a matter of few years, before which even my scalp ll begin to get tanned. :(

My only solace though, not true how far it’s true, but I have heard quite a few people speaking about it and have also read about it in lot many places. There are a lotta women who love Men who are bald :) … The very topic for this blog came to me when I was watching a celebrity interview on TV the other day and she said , she loved men who are bald.

“It’s sometimes humbling to know that there still exist women who have good taste in life…. “

Here are a list of few things I won’t get to do once I grow bald .. I will really miss..
  • Driving my bike without helmet and my hair hitting against the wind. (though I hardly drive without a helmet)
  • I always love the feel, when someone runs their hand through my hair. I ll really miss that feel, it’s really an easier way to tame fazal…
  • I will no longer be able to pretend that I am thinking, as I will really miss scratching my head when I am confused :)
But hey, there should be some good things as well of growing bald… So here is what I look forward to,
  • In the future, I no longer have to spend long hours in front of the mirror looking at myself and I don’t have to worry about the ugly think called Dandruff. I can wear all black color shirts with confidence.
  • I don’t need a comb(Save money and time). (I know most of you might say, even otherwise I never comb my hair. Esp. my mom would be the first to say that)
  • I don’t need to spend time shopping for shampoos (Again save money and time)
  • I don’t have to worry about my hair turning grey.. (hehe)
  • May be I can also negotiate with my saloon guy into giving me haircut for half the price :D

Ferrari is back.. And time for IPL finals now...

Sunday 24th May 2009, 20:00 hours, time for the Finals of Season 2 of Indian Premier Leauge(IPL). Two teams which were at the bottom of the table of Season 1 are playing the finals today. But what really excites me is my home team Bangalore is in the finals. :) And so its very obvious whom I ll be pitching for. Infact yesterday was the Semi’s of IPL Chandan, Rakesh and Varun were at home last evening, and we cheered our team from home till the last ball. And yes we “WON”... Though today I am all alone watching the match I am sure all my other friends ll be cheering and supporting the Bangalore team.... So lemme get back to watching the match, as I blog, guess what.... Bangalore has already struck. Gilchrisht is Out... Hurray....

Oh ya.. One more thing.. Coming to my other favourite sport F1, Ferrari is back.. After having a disastrous season so far, they finally announced their return today. Though they finish 3rd and 4th.. It’s always a nice feeling to see Ferrari on the Podium.... After Ferrari(the car in scarlet red) hoping the team Bangalore(also in Red) wins the IPL today..... And guess what, this is a blog from my sangria red laptop... :) I am such a ferrari fan.....

Update @ half Time

Bangalore has done well so far. They managed to restrict Hyd to jus 144.. Looks a gettable target but at the same time the wicket seems slow and also Bangalore are under pressure as they re the fav's today. The next few hours will tell who gets to lift the trophy... Will update the results after the innings.

Update @ 23:05 hours

Bangalore seems to be losing it... They were in, out, in and now again they have jus lost 2 back to back wickets.... 45 from 33 balls seems too big a target now with hardly any wickets left.. If Bangalore loses this match, guess there will be no update to this blog.. this would be the last update...

Hello? Anybody there....

It's almost 1 a.m on a saturday morning, and I am all awake. Feels like I have jus woken up. Was watching the IPL Semi-Finals between Delhi and Hyd. Was feeling very sleepy while the match was on and so the moment the match got over, I hit the bed hoping to catch some good sleep. And to make sure I had a good sleep, I turned on some light music. The moment I closed my eyes, donno what got into me... One thought after the after kept striking me, and I kept tossing and turning for almost an hour plus I guess... And then I heard my phone ring. I was a little scared when I heard the phone ring, cos calls at odd hours normally always bring news which is never quite pleasant. Reached out my cell to see who it was and I was surprised to see a call from my friend. (Ummm... What could it be???) With some anxiety in my voice, I answered the call only to hear him say that his net wasn't working and what could be the possible reason!!! (Hahaha... ) Tried to troubleshoot the problem and then finally hung up...
And now I dont wanna head back to my bed, as my thoughts will again start to haunt me all over again.... I logged onto to orkut, gmail, yahoo, facebook hoping to find some friend online. But na..
So then thought I ll get back to my sole confidant these days :)
A little disturbed these days.. Lotta things outta place in my life.. Need to set rite quite a lotta things.. And somehow feel I am not in control of anything...
I dont think I ll go to bed for the next few hours, but before I end this blog, lemme end it with a prayer...

Aaaha... I jus wanted to see that look

Have been very jobless today, and wanted to spend time doing something productive. And that's when I saw my blog bookmark on my browser toolbar. And then the next minute there I was trying my luck with all the html editing. A software guy like me lives and dies by the word google. Wonder what most of us would have done was it not for google.
Life is so easy...
Google, Copy and then paste......
But hey, dont gimme that look.. True anyone can google and any one can copy.. But it's an art to know what to paste where :) and that's something that comes only with experience.

Jus a few tweaks here and there. The major one being managed a "Cloud" for my blog. Looks a lot neater now rather than all those lengthy labels.
And ya, the very highly visible thing ofcourse... "Meeee"... Now you might ask why this photo? Simple, I wanted to shield my blog from everyone's wicked eyes....
In other words "Kisi ki nazar na lage mere blog pe", so had to put in an evil face....

Like my blog title says it all... I only wanted to see that look on your face on visiting my page... Phew!!!

Things about my native.....

When It comes to their hometown, there are things which people always like and dislike. Though I have spent all my life in Bangalore, I was born in a little city in Kerala called Kannur (Cannanore), and so by definition Kannur becomes my hometown. But I always like to say to people that I am from Bangalore and rightly so :)
So this blog is about what I like the most and what I hate the most of my hometown, rather I use the word “my native place”..

What I like

-> All the love and care my close family members usher me with. May be because I visit them once in a year or sometimes once I two years.

-> For all the lush greenery I see all around me. For all the water bodies I see. The seas the rivers.. For a person who lives in a city with acute water shortage, seeing fresh water makes me feel like a small kid who just wants to run into the water and keep playing whole day…

-> Native to me is more like a re-habilitation centre, when I learn that it is possible to live life without internet, computer and my cell phone. Back in Bangalore I cannot imagine a single day without the three.

-> I am unaware of the happenings around the world. Sometimes feels nice to live a life where in you feel there exists no world outside your home. What surprises me the most is though there is a TV at home with cable connection I never bother to switch it on. And yes ofcouse we do get news paper at home, but thanks to my proficiency in Malayalam by the time I end up covering the first page news, the newspaper guy is already there to deliver the next day’s paper. So I never make an attempt to read paper either.

-> All my little cousins. There is always at any given time at least one little one at native. And considering the fact that how much I love kids, it’s always something that I look forward to.

-> When I get to watch movies in theatres at 1/10th the price I pay here in Bangalore. And also I get to go watch all second show movies, and mom never objects.

What I dislike

-> The heat, the humidity, I hate the way I sweat in the heat and when even my undies are soaked in sweat. I always like freezing temperatures. I hate to see the sun. I always love lousy weather, it makes me more active. The sun drains out the energy in me.

-> The food. The staple food of kerala is rice and fish. Rice for lunch is fine with me, but a strict NO for dinner and breakfast. You cannot expect me to eat rice 3-4 times a day. NEVER!!!

-> The frequent power-cuts. It’s literally impossible to live life in Kerala without your ceiling fan over-clocking. So moment there is no power, you can sense hell coming close to you.

-> MOSQUITOES!!!! Worse still are those creatures who not only suck all the blood outta my body but irritate me the most when they come and make noise right at my ears. Drives me MAD. Why cannot those stupid creatures just drink blood and buzz off!!!!

-> The way the city comes to a grinding halt at the very drop of a hat. Hartals/Strikes/Bandhs on a regular basis.

-> This is a new one. And may be a one of case. I hate native cos this is the place that my little Aman who is just four months old(my nephew) fell sick for the first time in his life. He is always been our most protected child. Considering the fact that how cheerful and ever playful Aman is, it was really tough for us to see Aman all down and crying… :’(

-> Lastly my native is also the place where in on a daily basis I get to see some creatures which I am really scared off!!! King Cobras, rat snakes, chameleons, mongoose, foxes, large spiders, Centipedes… Huh!!!! Deadly… Even more deadly and lethal are some of my relatives whom I hate the most…… :)

I am back....

Finally I am back, after a long personal vacation and after attending Naseeb's(My mom's bro) wedding. Personal vacation cause this is the time where in I made sure I spent all my available time with my little nephew. There is tons to speak about him, I guess very soon I ll post a dedicated blog about him. It's been a real hectic past 20 days, with pre-wedding, wedding and post wedding preparations and ceremonies. Though it was my uncle's wedding, guess I was a part of most of the marriage arrangements and in many ways makes me feel a responsible person :)
I have always loved weddings in the family, it’s so much fun. Hectic indeed, but there is a fun in going through all the wedding ordeals. I have enjoyed every bit of time i spent at native.
In between all this, there is a new addition to my life, and I am a little late in introducing this new person... But better late then never I guess...I finally bought myself a laptop. And this is my first blog using my laptop. It's come in a little late, but I am sure it's very soon gonna be a inseparable component of my life. Though it's been around at home for the last couple of weeks, I have hardly spent couple of mins on it, thanks to Aman. But now that I am back to being home alone, I have all the time to explore my new lappy..
I have never before used a Sony Vaio, and now that I have started to use, the best thing about this laptop is its keypad. You ll simply fall in love with it. Very essential for net-o-holics like me who spends most of his time on the net or in front of the system.
So here's presenting my new Sony Vaio..
